Are you ready to get onboard the top deck of one of the last ex BA 747-400s to be removed from service? Preserved at City Airport, Barton Manchester, the top deck gives you the chance to see the original interior including seating, toilets, flight deck and flight deck bunks.
Following a very successful launch last year where we had Mark Rose, a Retired British Airways 747 pilot of over 20 years in the cockpit giving our customers some fantastic insight into the workings of the 747, he’s offered to come back! Mark flew The Deck aircraft many times, last on the 15th May 2017 from San Francisco to Heathrow and is going to be hosting hour long workshops for up to three people in the cockpit of G-BYGA on The Deck on a few selected dates.
These sessions will give an in depth overview of the 747 history, it’s emergence as such a huge part of the British Airways fleet, the improvements through the 100-400 series of the aircraft type and his own thoughts on the early retirement of the beloved queen of the skies.
Mark will also talk about his personal history and connection with the 747 and G-BYGA in particular. He will also give a step by step walk through of the incident that happened onboard this aircraft when taking off from South Africa back in 2009.
Finally, Mark will walk you through the steps in the cockpit of what happens to bring the 747 to life, through engine start up, taxiing, take off, cruise, descent and landing along with some scenarios of what happens in the cockpit if different types of emergencies were to occur.
Each workshop is limited to three people due to the four seats in the cockpit (one for Mark).
Base price includes one person access to the workshop with options to add on up to 2 more.
This ticket will also allow full access to the aircraft cabin as well and the workshop will occur entirely seated in the cockpit of The Deck itself. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and take as many photos as you like.
This is a tour not to be missed for those who are dying to find out more about the 747, it’s history and learn from a real 747 pilot as to how it actually flies.
